Commonly asked questions
In-home session?
What if it's a mess?!
Giggle. This is the first question everyone asks. Don't worry about it. Really. I'm a mom of two young kids. I totally get it. It's HARD having little ones, especially newborns. That's where I come in. Not only do you not have to clean; you don't even have to leave the house. I bring my mobile studio kit to you. That means I bring fake wood floors, backdrops, lighting, and all the props we need for your custom portrait experience. If you want lifestyle images in your home, we can certainly include those, and we can simply clean up one little corner at a time as we need it. With these boutique in-home sessions, you have all the options to choose from: studio-style, lifestyle, and even outdoor portraits. This is your portrait experience, and we'll plan it to fit your vision.
How long does it take?
That totally depends. Outdoor sessions can often be wrapped up in under an hour, but newborn sessions are typically longer. One of the reasons I love in-home newborn sessions is that all infants are different. Some newborns settle and sleep immediately and we're done in a couple of hours. Some newborns take more time. With in-home sessions, we're not in a rush. We can let baby lead us and take our time to get the images you're dreaming of. Unlike in a studio, you don't need to worry about packing your diaper bag, bringing enough milk or pumping supplies. You don't need to worry about bringing toys and books to entertain sibling until it's their turn. With in-home sessions, everyone is comfortable in their own home. Yes, it may seem like I'm moving in with all of the setup I bring, but I promise I will take it all with me when it's time to go.
Is there a travel charge for in-home sessions?
I travel throughout the state and New England for sessions! There is no additional travel fee within a 60-mile radius of Augusta. For locations further away, a small travel fee is added depending on the distance: 60-90 miles ($50), 90-120 miles ($100), etc. For clients greater than 60 miles away, in-person consultations and ordering appointments may be replaced by video conferences.
Will I receive an online gallery of my images to choose from?
Instead of an online gallery, I will walk you through the selection process in-person. This way we can discuss the editing process for your favorite images and choose images that best compliment each other for wall art, heirloom albums, and collection boxes. During your ordering appointment, I can even show you what different portrait sizes will look like on your own walls!
When are you open? What are your hours?
I am open by appointment only, and I schedule most sessions for Saturdays and Sundays to best accommodate working families. Design consultations (to plan your perfect newborn, baby, or maternity session) are typically scheduled for the early evening on weeknights.
Are prints and cards available for limited edition sessions?
Yes, my boutique product line is available to limited edition session clients as well. My system is calibrated for my professional lab, and I can only guarantee the color and print quality of images printed through my lab. Contact me to order items such as mounted prints, canvases, standouts, holiday cards & other photo gifts.
Do digital downloads come with sessions?
The session fee covers the design consultation, the photo session, and the ordering appointment. All products and images are sold separately during the viewing and ordering appointment. I offer the best of both worlds! The matching digital file printable to 8x10" is complimentary with each portrait purchased. These digital files can be used for sharing on social media and and unlimited reprints and gift prints for friends and family.
Are you insured?
Yes, my business is fully insured and registered with the state. I've also completed multiple newborn photography safety courses to ensure your little love is in the safest hands.
Do you charge and pay Maine sales taxes?
Yes! Maine tax law requires all photographic services and products be taxed at 5.5%, so you will notice that added to all of my session fees and products. I am fully registered retailer. I collect sales taxes and pay them to Maine Revenue Services quarterly.
